The short version

There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, no tracking cookies and no profiling. Nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing. Data is processed in three places only: the technical data every website receives, the fonts the page loads, and the email address you give me if you choose to send it.

Hosting and server logs

This site is hosted by Netlify (Netlify, Inc., USA), acting as a processor on my behalf under a data processing agreement. When you visit, the server automatically receives technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the date and time. This is standard for any website and is used only to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in operating a secure website, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Because Netlify is based in the United States, this involves a transfer to a third country, safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Fonts

This site currently loads the typefaces Space Grotesk and Space Mono from Google Fonts (Google Ireland Ltd.). To deliver them, Google receives your IP address. No font cookies are set and the data is not used to identify you. Legal basis: legitimate interest in consistent presentation, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Please note that a German court has held that embedding Google Fonts dynamically without consent can infringe the GDPR; hosting the fonts on this server instead removes that transfer entirely and is the intended next step.

Cookies and local storage

This site stores one small entry in your browser to remember that you have seen the cookie notice. It is not used for tracking. No advertising or analytics cookies are set, so no consent banner for tracking is required.

If you send me your email address

If you answer the question on this site and submit your email address, I receive that address and store it. I use it for one purpose: to write to you personally and to let you know when the book is published. What you send is transmitted through Netlify Forms (Netlify, Inc., USA) and delivered to my mailbox. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw that consent at any time by writing to the address above, and I will delete your address. Withdrawal does not affect anything sent before it.

If you contact me directly

If you write to me by email or WhatsApp, I receive and keep what you send so that I can reply. WhatsApp is operated by Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. and its own privacy terms apply to messages sent through it. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the contact relates to a possible engagement, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f). I keep correspondence only as long as it is needed to deal with your enquiry or as long as the law requires me to.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection in relation to your personal data. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. To exercise any of these, write to me at the address above. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — for this site that is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).
